Gianotti-Crosti syndrome

rare

An acrodermatitis characterized by the acute onset of a self-limited, symmetrical, monomorphic papular or papulovesicular eruption predominantly on the cheeks, buttocks and extensor surfaces of the extremities, with relative sparing of the trunk. It mainly affects children between 1 and 6 years of age and is considered an immunologic reaction triggered by viral infections, most commonly Epstein-Barr virus and hepatitis B virus, or occasionally by vaccination. Lesions typically resolve spontaneously within weeks without scarring.
